Koh Samet

As we had 15 days in Thailand,we decided to head to a Thai beach because it seemed silly not to.

Yes this really did happen.

I had wanted to go further south but we decided that financially Koh Samet made sense as it wasn't too pricey.  Plus it is only a couple of hours from Bangkok by bus, so that too was handy.  Again you take the bus and them hop on the ferry to the island which sits about half an hour into the Gulf of Thailand.  When we arrived at the pier we ended up getting a speed boat there which was pretty awesome.  I've never been in a speedboat before so that was memorable.  Very bumpy!

The speedboat drops you off straight onto the beach which is a bit concerning for other tourists trying to swim...  Anyways they probably all had a good laugh at me trying to get out the boat with my backpack and laptop.  Unfortunately the boat started to move away from shore whilst I was alighting and I had to do a gymnastic move to get off in time.  Embarrassing O'clock.

The beach looked great - white sands, clear waters, bars and beach huts bordering the beach in the background.  The beach huts looked great but we went off to find the cheapo ones which are not directly on the beach.  We eventually found somewhere and set about getting murdered by mosquitoes and roaming around to get acquainted with the beach.

The beach wasn't really that busy.  There were a lot of local Thais as well as tourists trying to get a tan.  The water was warmish, blue and nice.  Unfortunately every so often you would get some general crap floating by.  I guess it got washed down from the island or people chose to just dump it there.  It was quite gross at times but still beautiful.

As we hadn't made it to a full moon party I made it my mission to sample a bucket.  I tried a dirty Samsen Rum bucket whilst Andy went for a civilized mojito bucket
We met a guy from Mexico who was crazy as and looked like the dude from Tito and the Tarantula.  His poor girlfriend.

Then there was this dude who created a sand bed for one of the dogs and then proceeded to create a penis for him as well.  This was taken whilst he was still working on the balls.  The finished article is at  the top of the page.

At night times they put tables and throws down in front of the restaurants so you can eat on the beach and people come round occasionally selling random things that light up or locals would come along and do fire shows.

All in all fun times.
