Havelock Island

Check out time from the hotels in Port Blair are around 8am which is a shock to the system as we thought that 10am was bad! We sleepily made our way to the Ferry station.  There were a few Indian people there and Czech couple who were making their way back to Havelock. We waited until a ticket man came along to buy our tickets.  Everyone just crowded around him.  You have to be very rude to buy a ticket in India.  You must stand your ground even when someone is practically standing on top of you because if you yield you'll never get anywhere.  So we too shoved our money in the poor ticket mans face until he took it.  The Czech couple also found the queueing system tough so we didn't push in front of them.  I really miss politeness as I know it.

Anyway a lot of shoving and a broken down ferry later we made it to Havelock.  From the moment you arrive you can feel the difference.  The water is so clear and beautiful.  We got our island map and got a rickshaw for 10 rupees to island 3 (thank you Czech couple!) and got a place on the beach which is basic but it does have a tv which I'm secretly delighted about because it means I might be able to catch some Wimbledon late at night.  Woop!

We ventured out onto the beach and it was so beautiful.  The water is just so clear and warm and nice and beautiful. However I had totally forgotten about the dogs on the beach which I never got used to in Goa.  There are stray dogs roaming in the Andamans also.  We went off down the beach in search of food and after a couple of minutes happened upon a dog that wasn't nice.  I have never been a big fan of other peoples dogs because a couple tried to eat me as a child.  I loved my own but other peoples...not so much.

Anyway this dog came up to us and got a bit too close for comfort and then wouldn't go away when we told it to but instead started growling and acting a bit crazy and a bit bitey.  I think it wanted to mate and eat me because it really took affence to Andy and kept trying to get me.  In the end I calmly walked on whilst Andy held it down in the sand until it calmed down.  It really scared me and I had to have a double vodka to get over it.  Your just minding your own business trying to appreciate paradise and then a freaking dog tries to munch you.  It's ok though but Andy did get some scrapes.  I shall try to not let this freak me out but I'm scared now and dogs can smell fear a mile off.

However please can someone let me know if there are stray dogs on Thai beaches.  I really hope there aren't any.

Apart from that the beaches are really nice and your just surrounded by green the whole time. So glad it's off season because it feels like the beach is our own. I can't imagine being here in peak season it would be so crowded.

We made our way to beach no7 yesterday.  We hopped in a shared taxi and made it there dripping with sweat and it was so lush.  You have really dense palms all the way to the beach and then just clear water and sky.  As I was bobbing up and down in the water evrything just felt calm.  Andy yelped from time to time because he has this wierd fear of things biting his feet in the sea.  Everytime a leaf or some seaweed touches him he thinks something is trying to eat him whole.  Apart from that it felt like perfection.

The rickshaw is parked in front of our hut and at the end of the drive is the sea.

I managed to watch both the Federer and Murray matches last night which was awesome.  All that was missing was my pimms.  Nice to see Kate and Wills there.  I hadn't appreciated quite how much Wills is balding.

Moving On.

We ferry back to Port Blair and then it's on to Bangkok via Calcutta. I am I suppose looking forward to going somewhere new now with a completely different feel.  India has been an experience for sure but I'd like something new to fill my pockets with.

Sorry as I'm writing Andy has just come back from the loo and is telling me how hot the chicken 65 was coming out of his bum.  I wish he would share his bum stories on his blog than with me all the time but alas it is not to be.  He says I don't share enough with him, but I think he shares too much.

I'm not sure if romance and travelling go hand in hand sometimes.
