Hampi

We have come inland now and landed ourselves in a place called Hampi which is apparently one of the traveller go tos when in this part of India.  It's a village in Northern Karnataka which is surrounded by ruins and temples.  We arrived and were immediately surrounded by hotel owners wanting us to take a look at their rooms. It is so cheap here.  You can get a room for 300 which is about £3.50 a night, which is alright.  As its'off season everyone is keen to get the custom. We got a room which is quite luxurious really.  A TV, hot water and cool.

We have Movies Now which seems to have endless JCVD, Arnie and Stallone movies.  It's really bad, but I find myself drawn into watching them.  I guess it feels a bit homely to settle down each night and watch an action movie.  I feel like a really bad traveller, but it feels so comforting.  We are heading out and taking he town in little by little.  We could be seeing a whole lot more, but it is so nice to not feel like I have to be constantly doing.

We've decided to stay for a week and then go to Bangalore for my birthday which is on the 15th.  The pace that we started at was too much and Indian cities are pretty crazy.  You need to time to aclimatise for sure.  As I write, we have been here now for about 5 nights and have just been taking it easy.  Been on  a few walks, seen a few things and just found our way round really.

I'm having a lot of bad hair days though and trying not to miss my straightners.  Call me vain if you want but things were so much easier with them.   Also we keep fantasising about cheese.  All sorts of cheese.  I could just eat a big lump of vintage cheddar cheese right now.  Funny the things you miss.

Here are some shots of Hampi.  It's so beautiful and crazy looking.  You go from lush green palm trees to barren landscape and crazy layered boulders in the blink of an eye.

Loads of derelict buildings or rather the shells of that had to be torn down.

Sweaty Alice after trekking up mountain wearing flip flops...  Not wise.
